General Motors will launch the first Chevrolet manufactured in Kazakhstan there next month.


The company recently opened its first assembly plant in Khazakhstan near the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk. GM told the Associated Press it expects the plant to produce 1,300 cars this year and more than 3,000 in 2008.


Just-auto reported on 24 April that the first Chevrolets assembled by GM’s local partner, Azia Avto went on show in the Kazakh capital, Astana that day.


The Captiva SUV, Epica sedan and Lacetti compact models are assembled from kits supplied from General Motors’ South Korean manufacturing facilities (GM DAT).


The company in April expected to build 1,500 units this year.
