Toyota Motor said on Friday it plans to roll out eight models of compact cars for emerging markets, starting with the Etios that was launched in India in December 2010.

It said it targets annual sales of over 1m vehicles of the new compact lineup by 2015.

The update came as the automaker said cumulative sales of the Etios passed 100,000 units in India on 22 May. The Etios is produced and sold by TMC’s production and sales subsidiary in India, Toyota Kirloskar Motor.

The milestone was reached one year and five months after launch of the sedan version in December 2010. The Etios Liva hatchback followed in June 2011 and diesels in September 2011.

Etios sales from January to April were approximately 28,500 units, up 160% year on year.

TMC will increase TKM’s vehicle capacity from the current 210,000 units a year to 310,000 units a year in 2013.
