Toyota Motor president Akio Toyoda earned JPY352m ($2.84m) in total compensation last year after his bonus doubled to about $2m, the Japanese company said in a regulatory filing on Wednesday.

Toyoda, head of the world’s best-selling automaker, received a bonus of JPY249m in the financial year to 31 March, up from JPY127m in the previous year, Reuters reported. His base salary was unchanged.

Toyoda’s compensation is roughly a third of what Nissan Motor paid chief executive Carlos Ghosn in the same period, the report noted. Ghosn told shareholders on Tuesday he splits his time equally between Nissan and French alliance partner Renault which he also heads.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne was the top paid automotive executive in 2014, making about EUR31.3m ($35m), Reuters said.
