Mitsubishi is planning to consolidate its model names for the global market as part of its global branding strategy and in concert with greater cooperation with DaimlerChrysler.
Traditionally, Mitsubishi – in common with several other Japanese carmakers – has offered the same models under different model names in different markets, differentiating broadly between Asia, North America, Australia and Europe.
The Pajero SUV for example, is currently sold under the name of the Montero in the US, the Diamante is the Magna/Verada in Australia and Mirage with three doors is the Mirage Coupe in the US and Colt in Europe.
However, it is reported that as part of MMC’s latest business plan (“Turnaround Plan”), the company is seeking to establish a consolidated global brand image.
