Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus Corp., tainted by a series of vehicle defect coverups, on Thursday said it will recall some 52,000 midsize and large buses as seats next to the emergency exit could fall over when the vehicles come to a sudden stop.

Kyodo News said Mitsubishi Fuso will submit a recall report to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport within two weeks.

The seat defect in the buses manufactured between 1974 and 2004 is among 47 problems the automaker has so far treated as less serious than defects requiring the recall of vehicles for free repairs.

There were injuries in five incidents in which seats fell over that took place in 2001 and 2002, according to Mitsubishi Fuso.

With regard to more than 60 clutch housing cracks and ruptures which were not included in the past recall reports to the transport ministry and were repaired at vehicle owners’ expense in most cases, Mitsubishi Fuso said it will reimburse them for the payments, Kyodo News reported.
