Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus is recalling around 58,000 of its Canter light-duty trucks and Rosa small buses globally because of a faulty fuel filter tube.

According to the Japanese transport ministry, this includes 30,552 units produced between May 2010 and October 2012 and sold in Japan.

The ministry said there may be a defect in the shape of the tube that connects the engine to the fuel system. Vibrations when a vehicle is driven can cause the tube to disconnect causing fuel leaks and engine failure. In the worst case, it could lead to fire.

Eleven cases of defects were reported between June 2011 and September this year.
