Vehicle sales growth and currency gains offset by new model launch expenses saw Subaru maker Fuji Heavy Industries boost operating income 173.9% to JPY120.4bn yen for the full year to 31 March, 2013.

Net income rose 211% to JPY119.6bn yen

Led by high demand for the Impreza and other new models, Subaru’s overseas vehicle sales rose 20.1% fiscal year on year to 561,000 units with notable growth in the US and China.

In Japan, though passenger car sales increased, a minicar sales decline saw domestic sales drop 5.3% to 163,000 units.

Total global vehicle sales rose 13.2% to 724,000 units with revenue up 26.1% to JPY1,913bn.

FHI said it set record for vehicle sales, revenue, operating income, ordinary income and net income.
