They don’t make just minicars in Japan, there are minitrucks, too.

Daihatsu, Subaru and Toyota have unveiled a redesigned ‘kei’ model in Japan, The Motor Report said.

The companies developed the model jointly, branding it Hijet (Daihatsu), Sambar (Subaru) and Pixis (Toyota). All three have virtually identical styling.

The two-seat pickup is powered by a 658cc, DOHC, I3 petrol engine with five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmissions plus either rear wheel- or all-wheel-drive. The 2WD manual weighs 742kg and achieves fuel economy of 6.1 l/100km.

Daihatsu priced the Hijet at US$10,754 for the 2WD manual to $14,715 for the 4WD automatic.
