Fiat chairman Luca Cordero de Montezemolo has denied eyeing General Motors Europe’s Opel AG.

Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera had said earlier on Friday Fiat could be looking at Opel as an alternative to Chrysler, with which it is talks to form a partnership.

“They’ve written about it in the newspapers? No, no,” he told Reuters on the sidelines of an event.

Fiat has previously operated an engine design and manufacturing venture with Opel. Though the partnership was dissolved some years ago, some of the motors are still in production and used in both automakers’ current vehicle models.
