Toyota’s Indian division reportedly shut down operations yesterday (5 July) as workers undertook a day-long general strike.

The Kirloskar Motor Private subsidiary of Toyota in Bangalore asked staff not to report for work according to Japanese media, which said the company restarted work today.

Strike action was called in protest at the Indian government’s decision to raise prices on a range of goods, including petrol.

Apparent disorder by some protesters did not result in any damage to the factory, added the media reports.

Toyota’s Bangalore factor employs 3,800 people and manufactures models including the Corolla sedan.
