General Motors will inaugurate its newly built engine plant at Talegaon on 12 November. The new flexi-engine plant, is the first of its kind and can produce both petrol and diesel engines. Commercial production starts on 1 November after a US$230m investment in initial annual capacity of 160,000 engines.
The new engine plant will manufacture four engines starting with a 1.2 litre petrol engine for the new Beat car. A locally made diesel engine option will be launched during the first quarter of next year and a CNG version within months.
GM India chief P Balendran was quoted by local website living.oneindia as saying the company had yet to finalise the date for the launch of a diesel Spark.
