Maruti Suzuki plans to reduce vehicle capacity at its Gurgaon plant to refocus on engine assembly.
Chairman R C Bhargava said, “Out of three lines in Gurgaon, one is being reduced to set up the plant for 800cc diesel engines.”
Capacity of up to 100,000 units will be dedicated to a new LCV expected to be called Super Carry set for launch in the second quarter of 2015.
Business Standard said the reconfigured plant would have an annual output of 1.35m vehicles.
According to its sources, the Super Carry initially will come only with the 800 cc diesel engine though a 1.2-litre CNG variant is planned for 2016.
The company plans to make 80,000 in the first year.
