Indian car market leader Maruti Suzuki sold 86,196 units in April 2014, including 7,077 exports.

This was down 11.4%, or about 11,000 units, compared with April 2013.

Reflecting a tightening market as new government taxes introduced recently begin to bite, Maruti’s domestic passenger car sales fell 14% year on year to 65,786 units last month.

Total sales in India, including utility vehicles, were off 12.6% at 79,119 units.

Exports rose, however, by 4.4% to 7,077.
