India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, has seen its June sales leap 22.6% over the same month last year, driven by a record month for exports.
The company said in a statement it sold 75,109 vehicles last month, including 13,336 export units, boosted by sales of its recently redesigned Alto city car – now called the A-star in India and still the Alto in most export countries – and the new OEM deal with Nissan to supply a rebadged variant sold in global markets as the Pixo.
“This is the highest monthly export volume ever in the company’s history,” the statement said.
Maruti sold 61,247 vehicles in June 2008.
Maruti Suzuki’s domestic sales in the A2 segment grew by 22.2%, the company said. A3 segment volume was up 5% year on year last month.
