India passenger car market leader Maruti Udyog Limited sold 56,000 vehicles in the domestic market in June 2007, compared with 44,626 vehicles a year ago.
Exports totalled 3,917 units.
Compared to June 2006, Maruti’s volume in the domestic A2 segment (with the Alto, Wagon-R, Zen, Swift) grew by 38.3%, in A3 (SX4, Esteem) by 46.4% and in the C segment (Omni, Versa) by 24%. Sales in the A1 segment (the 1980s design M800) were off 11.4%, however.
Supply shortages of the SX4 and Swift were compounded in June due to the week-long scheduled maintenance shutdown of Maruti’s plants but supply now is likely to improve, the automaker said.
