Maruti Suzuki India is billing its new S-Cross as India’s first premium crossover.

It has launched the locally made model, known as SX4 S-Cross in other markets, with two diesel engine options called DDiS 200 and DDiS 320.

“The combination of massive torque, power and superior ride and handling is bound to delight customers. By offering power and performance, and the comfort and refinement of a sedan, S-Cross creates the new category of ‘premium cross-over’ in India, Maruti said in a statement.

It will retail the new model exclusively through its new Nexa ‘automotive experience’ dealer network launched recently.

Managing director & CEO, Kenichi Ayukawa, said: TThere is a segment of customers in India who want power and performance in their vehicle but also the comfort and refinement of a sedan. Built on a brand new platform, its bold cross-over shape, dynamic character lines and many sophisticated touches contribute to its distinct look and emotional appeal. The interiors are plush, upmarket and spacious with high quality fit and finish and top notch features.”

The DDiS 200 and DDiS 320 diesels, with six speed manual transmission only, have a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) providing optimal forced induction by controlling the flow of exhaust gases in accordance with the engine speed, helping to release high torque, low fuel consumption and low emissions. The DDiS 200 generates 66kW/4,000rpm and maximum torque of 200Nm/1,750 rpm.The 320 variant is good for 88kW/3,750rpm and 320Nm/1,750rpm.
