Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) said it had received 15,300 ‘bookings’ (orders) and over 75,000 enquiries for the redesigned Elite i20 in the 20 days after the sales launch.

This compared with other successful product launches in the last year – the Grand received 10,000 orders in 20 days and the Xcent 11,000 in 30.

HMIL sales and marketing chief Rakesh Srivastava told the Economic Times that demand for the new model had doubled and the automaker was working to increase production.

The Elite i20 comes with a 1.2-litre dual VVT Kappa petrol engine that runs up to 18.6km on a litre of petrol under the local Era/Magna – ARAI Certified test cycle while the second generation U2 1.4 CRDi diesel engine can achieve 22.54km on a litre.

Srivastava added that the diesel version accounted for 52% of orders “as per expectations”.
