Ford India, which has recently added the redesigned current model European Fiesta to its locally built line, sold 71,347 wholesale and export vehicles from January to July 2011, compared to 49,131 units in the same period last year – a 45% increase year on year.

In July 2011, the company had combined wholesales and exports of 10,706 units, compared to 9,666 units in July 2010.

The automaker last week said it would spend US$1bn building a second vehicle assembly and engine plant in India to meet growing local and export demand. The official announcement came after Ford signed an agreement with the state government of Gujarat where the new plant will be sited.

Ford India also currently builds the Figo hatchback, based on the previous generation European Fiesta, the Fiesta Classic, an updated version of the previous generation sedan and the Endeavour SUV.
