Ford are yet to decide if the latest Mondeo will suit India

Ford India has evaluated the latest Mondeo for the Indian market, where it already sells a booted version of the European Fiesta, but the final decision to launch the bigger vehicle will depend on the tariff structures and regulations of a new auto policy to be published soon.

According to sources, Ford may launch the Mondeo in the first half of this year if the duty structure on CKD/SKD assembly kits and Completely-Built-Up units remains unchanged. It is not clear however whether Ford will opt for a low volume KD assembly operation or simply import the Mondeo from its Genk plant in Belgium.

The car – expected to be priced at about Rs1.4 million ($US29,960) – will be changed to suit the Indian driving environment with different suspension settings and higher ground clearance.

Ford’s Indian operations have become a regional testing ground for all its products sold worldwide, excluding Japan, Europe and North America.
