Fiat India will introduce four new models by the end of this year, according to president and managing director Nagesh Basavanhalli.

He said the company had launched the new Linea and this will soon followed by the new Punto. The Avventura, a contemporary utility vehicle (CUV) will make its global debut in India later in the year.

Basavanhalli added: “We are also launching the Abarth brand with Abarth 500. We are very bullish with our plans this year.”

Asked about the outlook for the automobile industry in India, he said the second half of the year would see an improvement. From January to March this year, the industry was down by 4.5%.

“In 2013 calendar year, 2.47m passenger cars were sold across all segments in the country and Fiat’s share was below 1%,” he said. During April-December 2013, Fiat sales were 43% up over the same period a year previously.

The carmaker has also opened 108 dealerships across the country in the past 11 months and hopes to reach 150 dealerships by year end.
