Sales of new cars in Hungary rose 13% to 81,525 in the first half of 2002 according to data released by the Hungarian Association of Car Importers and Magyar Suzuki Rt. The car market is reacting favourably to good demand conditions and a growing economy.
The Hungarian market is led by Suzuki, whose Magyar Suzuki venture manufactures cars locally. Suzuki sales were 16,714 units in the first half, up 16% from last year, giving the company a market share of 20.5%.
Opel was in second place, with a market share of 14.2%, up slightly from 13.9%.
Daewoo volume showed a notable recovery – Daewoo’s sales rose 83% to 4,451 units.
