Honda's Anna, Ohio plant, the automaker's largest engine plant, celebrated the 25 millionth engine produced since the opening the factory in 1985.
Honda recently spent US$47m at Anna to introduce new engines for the 2018 Accord, including two new, direct-injected turbo I4 engines and the 2.0 i-VTEC Atkinson cycle engine for the hybrid. Total spend at the plant exceeds $2.7bn.
The 25 millionth engine, produced on Line 4, was a 1.5-litre turbo for an Accord, assembled 45 miles to the east at the Marysville plant. Anna also makes the turbo engine that powers the Civic Type-R built in the UK, the most powerful engine ever offered in a Honda production vehicle in the US.
Anna also supplies engines and components for 14 Honda and Acura products made in Ohio, Indiana, Alabama, Canada and other locations across the globe. The plant has four assembly lines and two casting operations.
The plant reached this milestone 32 years after opening. At its current production rate – 1.18m engines annually – it will take 21 years to build another 25m.
