Honda R&D Company Ltd, the research and development (R&D) subsidiary of Japanese automaker Honda Motor Company, announced that it has developed a new technology that enables wireless in-motion charging of EVs, in collaboration with Taisei Corporation (Taisei) and Taisei Rotec Corporation (Taisei Rotec).
The automaker confirmed that the three companies have co-developed an “underlaying technology for a magnetic coupling wireless power transfer road system (WPT road system), and plan to conduct demonstrations in the 2027 fiscal year, which starts on 1 April 2027.

Honda confirmed that the wireless charging system comprises proprietary technology from each of the partners, including a Honda high-power-density power receiver/transmitter compatible with DC power distribution; a Taisei high-response DC power supply system; and Taisei Rotec technology for embedding equipment in roads.
With these technologies, the system can achieve high-power wireless power transfer (WPT) and ease of installation on roads, benefiting a wide range of mobility products, from passenger EVs to large trucks and buses.
Honda said that the WPT technology “is expected to enhance the convenience of EVs by supplying power to vehicles while they are in motion, thereby reducing the frequency of charging needed at home or at charging stations.” The company is looking to put the technology into practical use initially in the logistics and transportation sectors, where it is expected to deliver significant benefits.
