Daimler's finance chief Bodo Uebber won't try to renew his contract when it expires in December 2019, the carmaker reportedly said late on Sunday.

Reuters noted the announcement marked the latest senior management change at Daimler.

Last month, Daimler named research chief Ola Kaellenius as its next chief executive officer to succeed long-serving CEO Dieter Zetsche.

Chief financial officer Uebber had been a contender for the top job.

Daimler did not announce a reason for the decision.

Kaellenius was named to rise to management board chairman and head of the Mercedes-Benz Cars division, effective from the shareholders meeting in 2019, freeing up predecessor Dieter Zetsche to take over as chairman of the supervisory board in 2021, replacing Manfred Bischoff.

The gap was to comply with a two-year "cooling-off period", Daimler said in a statement. What Zetsche would do in that time has not been specified.

"With Zetsche's intended appointment as chairman of the supervisory board, we are ensuring continuity for the sustained success of Daimler," said Bischoff.
