Dieter Zetsche will remain at the helm of Mercedes Car Group when the new Daimler AG officially starts up after its first shareholder meeting on 4 October.
Zetsche will retain his dual function as chair of the company and head of the Mercedes Car Group (MCG), a spokesperson confirmed to the German automotive industry publication, Automobilwoche.
Zetsche took over at the head of MCG when the previous chief, Eckhard Cordes, left the company unexpectedly. It had since been assumed that Zetsche would give up the role once the division had been successfully restructured.
According to Automobilwoche, Zetsche is considered by the supervisory board to be doing a good job, and as such there is no reason to make any changes.
When Zetsche took over at MCG it was making heavy losses. Under his management it has been returned to profitability.
