Volkswagen increased sales of its flagship Jetta (Bora replacement in Europe) compact sedan in the United States by 54.5% in September to 9,694 units, the company reportedly said on Tuesday.
Sales of the redesigned Passat mid-sized sedan, meanwhile, rose by 29.3% to 5,065 units, Reuters reported.
In the first nine months of the year, the VW brand sold 13.5% more Jetta sedans, but suffered a 37.2% drop in Passat sedan sales. Overall, US sales of the VW brand dropped 16.6% during the period, the news agency added.
However, Reuters noted, Touareg SUV sales dropped 48.1% in September to just 1,138 units while New Beetle Coupe sales fell 18.4% and sales of the Jetta station wagon (still the old model) fell 92%.
The top-line Phaeton was sold to just 64 buyers last month, a drop of 43.4%, Reuters said.
