Volkswagen has set up a new group trucks board of management as part of its ‘Strategy 2018’ programme.
Effective from 1 October this year, current group production manager Jochem Heizmann will head the new division. Present management board chairman Michael Macht will replace Heizman.
“The truck business is an essential part of the Volkswagen Group’s growth strategy,” said VW chairman Martin Winterkorn. “Given this significance, truck activities will in future be managed direct at Group management board level.
“With Michael Macht, an acknowledged production expert is joining the group board of management. He will pursue the productivity targets and drive forward the expansion of the group’s production capacity.”
Volkswagen has some ambitious targets and in China alone will double its capacity to approximately 3m vehicles per year by 2013/14.
“As chairman of the board of management of Porsche, [Michael Macht] has made a key contribution to the envisaged union of Porsche and Volkswagen over the past year,” added Winterkorn.
