DaimlerChrysler on Tuesday said it was recalling 1,650 Smart Fortwo minicars worldwide to check for steering problems.

The problems stem from the mounting of a part supplied by the US group Delphi, and could cause drivers to lose control of their cars, a spokesman told Agence France Presse (AFP).

The recall concerns vehicles sold since April, he added.

A DaimlerChrysler UK spokeswoman told just-auto that no cars in the UK are affected.

“Right-hand drive production has not started yet and we don’t get the car till September,” she added.
