Mercedes-Benz achieved a record sales tally for August with sales up 4.5% year on year to 91,316 units. Year to date M-B car volume rose 5.4% to 841,567, also a record.
At 911,303 units (+5.1%), sales by the Mercedes-Benz Cars division also reached a new high year to date after August volume rose 4.5% to 97,337 Mercedes-Benz, smart and Maybach brand vehicles.
Sales and marketing head Joachim Schmidt said: “Demand for our products developed very positively in August. Although we are currently going through a phase of several model changes, in the past month we sold more vehicles than ever before in this period.”
He added the company held 50,000 orders ahead of the mid September launch of the redesigned A-Class: “With the new A-Class and the gradual introduction of other new models such as the CLS Shooting Brake and the GL-Class, our sales will gain further momentum.”
Mercedes-Benz sales in the NAFTA region in August also reached a record 20,557, up 11.3% with YTD volume up 13.5% to 168,462. Record sales were also achieved YTD in Canada and Mexico.
In China (incl Hong Kong) Mercedes-Benz recorded a new sales high for August with 14,205 units (+2.8%) sold. The brand also posted a high for the period from January to August, with 127,724 deliveries (+6.2%). Russia and Japan volumes grew 20% this year and, in the Middle East, the brand posted record sales up 35.5%.
German YTD sales rose 1.6%.
Western Europe volume (minus Germany) held up well in August, up 4.8% to 14,174 and 0.1% YTD to 190,775 units.
