DaimlerChrysler is talking with Chinese companies about setting up joint ventures to produce cars and trucks in the world’s most populous country, Bloomberg News said, citing the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

The paper reportedly said DaimlerChrysler is in talks with Beijing Automotive Industry Corp. and Southeast (Fujian) Motor Corp.

Despite trailing rivals Volkswagen and BMW AG in the Chinese market, DaimlerChrysler insists it isn’t under any pressure and, after failing to conclude talks with VW’s Chinese partner, First Automotive Works, last year, is trying to resurrect its Chinese strategy, the report added.
