Bosch has made its 50 millionth Servolectric electric power steering system.

“The next 50m certainly won’t take another 12 years,” Christian Sobottka, chairman of the supplier’s automotive steering business division, said, in view of heavy demand.

Market shares for electric steering will keep on rising due to vehicle electrification and automated driving.

Bosch makes electric steering systems in Europe, North America and China. Around 70% of its power steering systems have electric drive compared with 40% in 2009.

The supplier expects hydraulic systems will account for only 10% to 15% of steering systems produced by 2020.
