BMW Group booked record August sales last month, selling 145,902 vehicles last month, up 4.5% year on year. Though Mini sales were down because of a model change, the group still expects to pass 2m sales this year.
Its year to date (YTD) tally of 1,330,077 (up 6.7%) was also a record.
BMW brand sales rose 6.2% last month to 126,152 (up 9.5% to 1,151,904 YTD) with deliveries of the all-electric and range extender i3 models at 8,401 for 2014 so far.
The Mini three-door hatchback model changeover hit sales of the brand after August sales slumped 5.6% to 19,504 and YTD volume was off 9% to 175,658.
Group sales in all three major regions saw increased in the first eight months of the year, however.
“Our worldwide sales continue to grow, with August maintaining the upward trend,” said sales and marketing chief Ian Robertson. “While external factors continue to influence some markets, all three major sales regions are delivering more vehicles than ever before this year and we remain confident that we will hit our target of breaking the 2m mark in 2014.”
