BMW group net profit for the second quarter of 2004 rose 18.1% year on year to a record €671 million. Net profit for the first half was up 10.8% to €1,194 million.


Group revenues for the second quarter 2004, at €11,910 million, were up 16.0% while, for the first six months, revenues increased 10.5% to €22,715 million.


Q2 profit in the automobiles division rose 26.4% to €971 million and operating margin improved to 8.4% from 8.0% a year ago.


321,010 BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce brand cars were sold during the second quarter 2004, 13.3% more than in the previous year. Half year volume increased 8.5% to 590,983.


BMW brand sales in the quarter rose 14.3% to 273,429 while 495,496 were delivered in the first half, an increase of 8.9%.

Mini volume rose during the second quarter to 47,402 units, up7.6%, while 95,168 cars were delivered in the first half, up 5.9%.


Rolls-Royce sold 319 Phantoms in the first half but no prior year figure was given.


BMW’s financial services division boosted profits 15.3% to €136 million in the second quarter and by 19.1% to €268 million for the first half.
