BMW Group said on Monday (13 January) it sold a record 1,963,798 BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce vehicles worldwide in 2013, up 6.4% year on year. All three brands also reported record deliveries for the year. December sales rose 2.9% to 186,786 units.

BMW brand volume was up 7.5% to 1,655,138 vehicles and 2.3% to 155,835 in December with the recently redesigned 3 Series up 23% to 500,314 units for the year.

Mini sales climbed 1.2% to a record 305,030 vehicles in 2013, a fine result given that the volume hatchback version was in its final year. The US remained the largest market with a record 66,502 cars sold last year, followed by the UK with 53,507.

Rolls-Royce sales rose 1.5% to a record 3,630 cars as demand was strong for the Phantom and new Ghost while bespoke (customised) sales reached record levels. First Wraith deliveries began during the fourth quarter.

Despite challenging economic conditions in many European markets, the group saw sales in its largest region dip just 0.7% to 858,990 units. UK volume was up 8.4% to a record 188,837 vehicles and Russian sales climbed 11.8% to a record 44,871.

Asia volume rose 17.3% to 576,616 vehicles with mainland China up 19.7% to 390,713.
