Mercedes has started selling ‘BlueEfficiency’ versions of the C-Class in Germany which cost around EUR500 less than conventional models, according to Automobilwoche.

A BlueEfficiency version of the C180 Kompressor is EUR31,089 and the C200 CDI EUR 32,517.
With a 115kW/156 horsepower petrol engine, the C180’s fuel consumption is 0.9l/100km lower than a conventional model at 6.5l. CO2 emissions ae 156g/lm. The 200 CDI diesel version’s fuel consumption is 5.1l/100km and CO2 emissions are 135g/km, a reduction of 10.5%.
Mercedes environment head Herbert Kohler last week said the reduction in fuel consumption had been achieved by reducing the weight of the car, modifying the gearbox, adding a gearshift indicator and reducing wind resistance.
The indicator on the instrument panel advises the driver when to change gear, in order to save fuel.
