Volkswagen’s premium group Audi is now targeting global sales of 1.7m – up from “well over 1.6m” a month ago – after August sales rose 5.6% year on year to about 125,300 vehicles. Year to date, sales were up 10.5% to 1,138,700 with North American volume up 22.6%.
“Worldwide demand for our automobiles continues to develop positively even if the economic environment in certain markets remains challenging. We are confident of selling 1.7m cars by the end of the year,” said Audi sales chief Luca de Meo.
US sales rose 22.1% to 17,101, Canada was up 31.7% and Mexico 14.1%. Brazil volume rose 58.6% to 1,172.
However, Germany tanked as sales fell 26.6% though YTD was still positive at 4.1% to 176,340 and there were other gains elsewhere in Europe.
Asia-Pacific sales grew with China up 10.2%, Australia 21.2% and South Korea 49.1% last month.
