The French new car market expanded by 2% in September to stand at 153,151 units, according to statistics released by the French auto industry trade association, the CCFA.
The September growth represents the fifth month in the last six in which the market has grown, but sources report that the figure has been slightly inflated by changes to registration practices in France that took effect in September.
Sales for the first nine months of the year were 5.7% up on 2000 at 1,714,065 units and the market is on course to reach 2.2 million units this year.

PSA, buoyed by recent model introductions, had a particularly strong month – Citroen up by 42% in September and 12.8% over the first three quarters against the same period last year.
