French parts supplier Heuliez’s new owners Baelen de Gaillard Industries (BGI) has said it will continue the company’s stamping expertise, among other auto activities.

Unions in France had expressed worries stamping had not been mentioned after yesterday’s (30 June) announcement that a consortium of BGI and German partners Con Energy/Kohl would take over Heuliez following a EUR10m (US$12.4m) loan from the French government.

The CFE-CGC union highlighted its fears concerning Heuliez’s stamping business, but a statement from BGI sent to just-auto today (1 July), specifically mentions the segment.

“BGI is taking over Heuliez’s stamping activity, which will henceforth be known as Heuliez SAS into which EUR10m has been invested,” said a BGI spokesman.

“The objective of BGI is to restore Heuliez’s prestige and to make it a sub-contracting bodybuilder for those placing the largest orders in France. We are betting on the diversification of its activity for the relaunch.”

France’s industry ministry had indicated some 481 out of Heuliez’s 600-strong workforce would be taken on, but BGI is now saying this will total 485.
