Taiwan-based Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn – best known as a contractor for Apple iPhones made in China) has said it is ready to formally enter the field of electric vehicles.
"Hon Hai's outstanding contribution to Taiwan's economy, starting from Taiwan and based on the world, is a model for our technology industry," Vice President Shen Rongjin of the Executive Council said in a video message.
During a forum event, Hon Hai officially announced from the beginning that it would launch the "MIH EV Open Platform for Hardware and Software". Wei Guozhang, Hon Hai's technology chief, said the new platform would address the pain points of electric vehicle development at this stage through the three main features of "software definition", "soft and hard layering" and "open ecology". He further explained: "Automotive in the future will be able to continue to update and upgrade through the "software definition", while the "hard and soft separation layering" architecture has greatly shortened the traditional lengthy vertical development cycle, and most importantly, the key technologies and tools of the open platform to developers, greatly reducing the barriers to entry, so that more people can invest in the development of the electric vehicle industry, to create the most innovative electric vehicle applications of the future." Hon Hai will lead industry partners towards the future of "software definition" and "open ecology" to make Hon Hai's MIH electric vehicle platform an Android system for the electric car industry.
In addition, Hon Hai Technology Group in cooperation with Yulong Group's newly developed "hardware open platform" also officially debuted at Hon Hai Technology, Hon Hai Advanced Technology Vice Chairman Zuo Shisheng said, MIH hardware platform focus on four major features: "module elastic guest", "lightweight all-in-one molding", "powerful EEA architecture" and "self-driving platform", with software platform to form the MIH EV open platform. He further announced: "MIH hardware and software platform all development results, including specifications, parameters, software, etc. will be open to partners! On the basis of MIH, the car manufacturer can develop the required models with the least cost and shortest time, whether it is Sedan, SUV, MPV, or, if it is a partner manufacturer developing ADAS Tier 1, it can use MIH parameters, software, to rehearse his perception, positioning, decision-making and other hardware and software.
In addition to the opening of MIH's open platform for hard and soft integration, Hon Hai has demonstrated the strength of technology and key components related to electric vehicles. Hon Hai Product Chang XiaoCaiyou through the analysis of the overall structure of electric vehicles and traditional fuel vehicles to explain Hon Hai's technical advantages in the field of key components of electric vehicles, but also for the first time exposed the "battery fast charging and low temperature optimization", "low drumming soft package technology", "cloud AI battery management system", "high energy density battery", "new process of non-precious metals" and "solid state battery research and development" and other six power battery black technology.
Hon Hai also announced that in 2024 it will launch the first commercial solid-state batteries, not only will reduce the weight and cost of the current liquid batteries, but also to solve the hidden problems of liquid batteries. In addition, Xiao Caiyou also mentioned that Hon Hai for many years committed to the development of new materials, has a high strength, high stretch, corrosion resistance, no heat treatment, casting molding excellent exclusive high-strength die-casting materials, enough to make Hon Hai lightweight and modular open chassis power platform has super competitiveness.
Chairman Liu Yangwei said: "In the past, the automotive industry was the world's 'fuel engine' and 'variable speed system', but with the trend of electricity and the Internet of Things, the automotive industry will become the 'electric power, batteries and semiconductors' of the world." Taiwan has a strong semiconductor and ICT industry, and according to BCG's survey, the global electric vehicle market will reach 36 million units per year by 2025-2030, so Taiwanese companies should work together to quickly seize this emerging market.
Chairman Liu Yangwei called on friends in the investment community to invest in Hon Hai, but also to invest in Taiwan's electric vehicle industry. Hon Hai has invited industry partners to share MIH's open platform and contribute to the future of Taiwan's electric vehicle industry.
