Taiwan-based Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn – best known as a contractor for Apple iPhones made in China) has said it is ready to formally enter the field of electric vehicles.
"Hon Hai's outstanding contribution to Taiwan's economy, starting from Taiwan and based on the world, is a model for our technology industry," Vice President Shen Rongjin of the Executive Council said in a video message.
During a forum event, Hon Hai officially announced from the beginning that it would launch the "MIH EV Open Platform for Hardware and Software". Wei Guozhang, Hon Hai's technology chief, said the new platform would address the pain points of electric vehicle development at this stage through the three main features of "software definition", "soft and hard layering" and "open ecology". He further explained: "Automotive in the future will be able to continue to update and upgrade through the "software definition", while the "hard and soft separation layering" architecture has greatly shortened the traditional lengthy vertical development cycle, and most importantly, the key technologies and tools of the open platform to developers, greatly reducing the barriers to entry, so that more people can invest in the development of the electric vehicle industry, to create the most innovative electric vehicle applications of the future." Hon Hai will lead industry partners towards the future of "software definition" and "open ecology" to make Hon Hai's MIH electric vehicle platform an Android system for the electric car industry.
