Ford has started production of the redesigned F-150 truck at Rouge Center and said construction had started on the facility which will build the EV variant by mid 2022.

The EV plant will add 300 jobs and is part of a $700m spend to build the new truck line which also includes a hybrid. The new jobs will support battery assembly and production of the electrified models .

Ford said the EV will introduce new technology which allows mobile power generation.

The EV will have dual electric motors to deliver the most horsepower and torque and the fastest acceleration of any variant, plus the ability to tow heavy trailers/

The EV would need less maintenance than a typical petrol engine version, leading to claimed 40% savings for lifetime total cost of operation.

A giant front trunk ('frunk') will add cargo carrying versatility and security.
