A weakening rouble is triggering a sharp up-tick in Russia’s performance, with April figures from the Association of European Businesses (AEB) showing sales of new passenger cars and LCVs in Russia increased by 17.6%.

Among the top ten bestselling models so far, all models are locally produced.

New car and light commercial vehicles sales in Russia increased by 22,796 sold units and amounted to 152,425 cars, according to the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee (AEB AMC).

This year from January to April, 545,345 cars were sold.

“A strong month for the Russian car market, repeating last year’s double digit gain in sales volume,” said AEB AMC chairman, Joerg Schreiber.

“Consumer appetite remains robust, supported by a growing choice of new products offered at attractive prices.
