Ucal Fuel Systems Ltd, a joint venture with Mikuni Corporation (as technical partner and holder of a 26% stake) will soon enter the Iranian automotive market through an export order for carburettors. The order is through a Japanese trading house, which is also funding the programme.
The government of Iran has initiated a programme to reduce vehicular pollution mandating replacement of old carburettors with environment-friendly ones. After a successful pilot test on 50 vehicles using Ucal carburettors, the order was clinched.
The size of the order remains undisclosed, though it is understood to be of significant size. Supplies will begin in August.
Currently, Ucal is an OEM supplier to Indian companies like Maruti, Hyundai, Hero Honda, TVS and Bajaj. LML and Royal Enfield were recently added and supplies to Hero Motors will begin soon.
