Scania do Brasil has postponed the dismissal of 70 workers announced last week, writes Rogério Louro.
But only 65 staff will return to the truck and bus chassis assembly line in the São Bernardo do Campo plant, São Paulo state; the other five accepted a voluntary dismissal plan.
However Scania said that it had only postponed the dismissals until November to give the Brazilian automotive market a chance to revive and boost production.
In the first half of 2002 Scania sold 1,547 trucks and bus chassis in Brazil, 52.5% down on the 3,257 units sold in H1 2001.
