PSA Group is forecasting sales of 3,250,000 vehicles worldwide this year, an increase of 3.7 percent over last year. In 2001, the two PSA Group brands Peugeot and Citroën sold 3,132,800 units, writes Rogério Louro Alves.
“We expect a global sales rise in spite of forecasting a small decrease in European market sales this year,” said Jean-Martin Folz, PSA Group president, as he opened PSA#;s new engine factory in Brazil.
PSA last year sold 80 percent of its vehicles, 2,505,000 units in Europe.
PSA thinks new models will boost sales despite the retraction in Europe. Peugeot will introduce the 206 SW and 307 SW station wagons, 807 minivan and new Boxer van while Citroën has the new C3 compact hatchback and its versions of the shared minivan and van designs, the C8 and Jumper.
2002 is also the first full year for sales of the Peugeot 307 hatchback and Citroën C5 large hatchback and station wagon.
“We believe that these new cars will support our global sales rise,” Folz said.
