Brazilian car makers produced 126,766 vehicles last month, according to the Brazilian National Automaker’s Association (Anfavea), writes Rogério Louro Alves.


This was down just 0.6 percent compared with the 127,560 units built in January but was off 11.7 percent compared with the 143,598 vehicles built in February 2001.


Total vehicle sales increased 1.1 percent last month to 111,522 units over the 110,261 units sold in January but were down 15.7 percent on the 132,327 vehicles sold in February 2001.


Brazilian car makers exported 23,288 vehicles in February, up 27.1 percent on the 18,322 units shipped abroad in January.


February exports decreased by 1.5 percent compared with the 23,635 units shipped in February 2001.
