EU antitrust regulators have extended their investigation into the proposed merger of Fiat Chrysler and PSA to 13 November, the European Commission (EC) said.

"The commission extended the deadline in agreement with the parties," a spokeswoman for the EU competition authority told the Reuters news agency.

The report noted the commission launched a four month probe last month concerned that the deal to create what would be the world's fourth biggest automaker maker may hurt competition in small vans in 14 EU countries and Britain.

The move suggests the companies will have to offer concessions to address the competition concerns, Reuters added.

Antitrust authorities in the US, China, Japan and Russia have already given the go-ahead, the news agency said.
