Colombia’s currently buoyant economy saw another record last month as the auto industry sold 18,081 vehicles, the best result for the month in the over 50 years that records have been kept.
Ongoing import tariff reductions have reduced car prices and helped fuel the sales boom.
Sales rose 14% compared with July while 2006 volume of 120,385 to the end of August was up 34.3% year on year.
The top five brands were GM-Chevrolet (36.7%), Renault (17.1%), Hyundai (12.5%), Mazda (5.3%) and Toyota (4.4%).
Year to date, local assemblers accounted for 76,944 vehicles or 64.0% market share.
