Renault’s Romanian unit Dacia has suspended production due to a worldwide shortage of semiconductors, according to the country’s labour minister Raluca Turcan.
“The Dacia plant in Mioveni has stopped its activity due to the global semiconductor crisis, a situation that affects 50% -60% of the production activity and approximately 8,000 workers,” Turcan said in a social media post following a meeting with representatives of the Romanian Automobile Manufacturers Association and Concordia Employers’ Confederation, romania-insider.com reported.

According to Turcan, the government will take steps to fast track legal provisions regarding the reduction of working time in cases such as Dacia’s, in order to help the company keep jobs.
“During February, the Renault Group will adapt production amid a shortage of electronic components from certain suppliers. Thus, the production activity in Mioveni was interrupted on 1 February. The supply chain and procurement group teams are mobilised to manage the impact of this global crisis, which affects much of the automotive sector,” local economic news portal Profit.ro quoted Renault Romania as saying.
