SAIC has launched its mid-sized Roewe 550 model on the Chinese market.
The ‘Rover 45 replacement we never had’ has near VW Bora levels of interior refinement and strong exterior lines overseen by British design director Tony Williams. The 550 slots under the 750 (the old Rover 75).
The car sells at CNY142,800 to CNY189,800. Roewe 550 comes with a 1.8 litre turbocharged engine and SAIC says it has developed an all-new platform for the car.
Chinese media sources suggest that SAIC is in talks with Karmann about assembling the Roewe 550 in Europe.
