Production and sales of passenger cars in China in June 2017 reached 1,845,000 and 1,832,000 units respectively, up 5.6% and 4.6% month on month month, and up 3.7% and 2.3% year on year, 1.7 percentage points and 2.2 percentage points lower than the overall growth.

A two month year on year decline has ended, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) said.

Overall, new vehicle sales in China increased 4.5% to 2,172,000 units in June, compared with 2,077,000 sales in the same month of last year, according to CAAM.

In the first half, production and sales of passenger cars were 11,483,000 and 11,253,000 units respectively, up 3.2% and 1.6% year on year, 1.4 percentage points and 2.2 percentage points lower than the overall growth.

SUV growth continued with production and sales were up 18.9% and 16.8%, all other segments declined.

Production and sales of cars were down 1.8% and 3.2% respectively while MPV volumes were down 12.8% and 15.8%. Crossovers declined by 32.7% and 25.3%.

In June, sales of passenger cars with engine capacity of up to 1.6 litres fell 4.4% year on year to 1,214,000 units. This segment's sales accounted for 66.3% of total sales of passenger cars, 4.7 percentage points lower year on year.

First half sales fell 2.6% year on year to 7,697,000 units, down 2.6% year on year and took 68.4% of total sales in the segment.
